What are the minimum requirements for furnished housing?

Edited

Until the summer of 2015, there was no legal text providing a list of essential furniture for the daily life of tenants in furnished housing. Now, the decree of July 31, 2015 (n°2015-981) outlines the minimum list of essential furniture that tenants need to sleep, eat, and live in the accommodation.

The furnished housing must include at least the following furniture:

  • bedding including a duvet or a blanket;

  • a window covering device in rooms intended to be used as a bedroom;

  • cooking plates;

  • an oven or a microwave;

  • a refrigerator and a freezer or, at a minimum, a refrigerator with a compartment that can maintain a temperature of -6° or lower;

  • the necessary dishes for meals;

  • kitchen utensils;

  • a table and seats;

  • storage shelves;

  • lighting fixtures;

  • cleaning equipment suitable for the characteristics of the housing (household linen and kitchen utensils must be appropriate for the number of occupants).
