What is the tourist tax?

Municipalities can require tenants staying in their territory to pay a tourist tax. The amount of the tourist tax is freely determined by the municipality, within the limits set by law. An additional tax may also be implemented by the department (10%) or the region (for example, the Île-de-France region recently established an additional "Grand Paris" tax of 15%).
